The Groove – Play That Funky Bingo – Blurb from June 24, 2026

The air at The Groove was thick with the scent of barbecue, cold drafts, and the distinct hum of absolute musical focus. John kicked things off on the mic by making sure everyone knew exactly what kind of marker, highlighter, or blunt instrument they needed to dab their cards. It is a vital public service announcement he graciously delivers nearly every single time, just in case anyone forgot how ink works since last week.
We slid smoothly into Round 1 with Fonzie’s Jams, featuring artists starting with the letter "A"—cue the collective, involuntary "Aaaayyyyyyyy!" from the room. Denise s got the wheel spinning early by nailing the very first Bingo of the night. From there, the Winner's Wheel filled up fast as a trend started emerging: spergron, shannon h, and marc t apparently woke up with a deep, spiritual connection to the playlist, immediately landing themselves on the wheel and setting a frantic pace for the rest of the crowd.
Things took a nostalgic turn in Round 2 with a heavy dose of 1980s music, which immediately divided the room into those who lived it and those who had to rely heavily on Shazam. Chris p closed the round out before the clock ran down. Meanwhile, alisha b and ben w were busy quietly building a multi-round streak, securing back-to-back wheel spots and making the rest of The Groove look like they were still stuck in first gear.
Round 3 brought out the heavy artillery with Disco Ball Part 1, unleashing that unmistakable 16-beat disco thud that makes your teeth rattle in a good way. McKenzie c completely ruled the dance floor on this one, snatching the first Bingo to ensure a spot in the final drawings.
By the time we hit Round 4's "We Got You Covered" twist—where game cards listed the artists but the speakers blasted wild cover versions—the room was pure chaos. People were flipping through mental Rolodexes while apps flashed like fireflies in the dark. It was a massive, crowded race to the finish line and get your name added to the wheel.
start practicing your architectural skills, because players will need to draw a sand castle directly on their Round 2 cards. Mastering the sketch earns you two raffle entries if that card hits a real Round 2 bingo, or one automatic entry turned in when you com eup to get your Round 3 card. With the notes settled and the wheel stuffed to capacity with the night's achievers, we finally spun for the real treasure.
💵 The Night's Payday:
  • mckenzie c – $10.00
  • alisha b – $10.00
  • louise d – $10.00
  • amber b – $10.00
At least that's how I remember it. But it's not been a great week for memory!
I DID remember to do my blurb. Which is good.
